The Portland Mandophonic Orchestra rehearses twice weekly, and performs everything from rock and roll to classics at several concerts yearly. Traditionally, the two major concerts are at Christmas and Valentine's day, but the orchestra takes part in many local events throughout the year. In addition, the orchestra hosts an annual West Coast Mandolin Orchestra annually on Memorial Day weekend. The mass orchestra usually numbers any where from 45 to over 60 players, and is open to non-orchestra-affiliated musicians as well. Ken Culver is personally responsible for the existence and continuation of this orchestra.

The Portland Mandophonic Orchestra is made up of the traditional mandolin family instruments and guitar, with flute, harp, oboe, clarinet, piano, and accordion as the occasion warrants.
