| Florida Mandolin Orchestra |
| Lake Worth, FL |
The Florida Mandolin Orchestra was established in 1991. The love of music and musical entertainment was the lure that brought this group to-gether. We are approxmately 20 retirees from all walks of life who perform on the mandolin including the mandolin family plus guitars. We have performed to great acclaim throughout South Florida. Our performances consist of classical, semi-classical, ethnic & popular selections. Our concerts are enhanced by our lovely soprano vocalist.
Conductor, Barry Volkman: while attaining his Bachelor's and Master's degrees at the Manhattan School of Music, he was awarded summer scholarships at the Berkshire Music Center at Tanglewood, studying with Leonard Bernstein, Lukas Foss, Hugh Ross and Seymour Lipkin. He studied under the eminent Pierre Monteux, as classmate of such well known conductors as Erich Kunzel and Harry Ellis Dickson. He was given the honor of conducting the U.S. premier of the Haydn Symphony #75 with the Columbia University Symphony Orchestra.
